The ABCs Of Installing A Printer

Mark Jackson
Anyone who has ever walked though the aisles of a big box electronics store quite possibly has been dazzled by the array of small printers that are available for sale at ridiculously low prices. Whether you are perusing the assortment of HP printers or any other variety, the fact that a tag reads “all in one” or “multifunction” might be enough to remember your somewhat antiquated setup at home, and before you know it, you are leaving the store with a new printer, nicely boxed up.

Of course, when you get home and get ready to install your printer, you may find that installing laser printers or inkjet printers is not nearly as easy as the bold statements on the box make it sound. This is where the ABC of printer installation comes in:  Always make sure that you get all the documentation with the printer. This is especially important if you purchase a floor model!  Be sure that you have all the cables and driver CDs.  Consider purchasing print cartridges. Yet rather than guessing what cartridges the color printers or photo printers need, be sure to match up the numbers!

The first question anyone will probably asks before attempting the installation of any Hewlett Packard printers is the query if the printer needs to be connected to the CPU prior to loading the LaserJet’s drivers or if the software needs to be loaded first and the HP LaserJet should be connected thereafter. By and large, the documentation that came with the printer will tell you, but if it is ambiguous, the notion that color laser printers should be hooked up whereas HP photo printers should have software loaded first generally prevails.

HP LaserJet printers are notoriously easy to configure, and a print wizard menu will walk you through the entire process. If you get ambitious and want to do it manually, you may access your printer files from the start menu via the control panel.

The next step is probably a bit more involved in that it deals with trouble shooting. You may get some error messages, but by and large they will stem from an ink cartridge that has not yet been installed, or the failure to add paper to the printer. If all else fails, restart your computer with the printer disconnected and check your printer files to ensure that the old printer has been deselected and the new printer selected.

Last but not least, remember that you may have to update the printer selection file in a variety of programs that you use, such as photo editing and also desktop publishing programs. This is especially true if you are accustomed to printing to a variety of different printers so as to increase the professional appearance of your finished products. Generally, you will need to ask each program to recognize the new printer and some may need you to specify if it should replace the main printer or simply remain a peripheral printer.

What Puts Technology at Your Fingertips?
If you have ever shopped for printers, you know how confusing the research can be. Visit any big box home electronics and computer store, and you will indubitably feel a sense of awe as shiny HP printers line up next to multifunction Compaq printers, Dell color printers, and of course the wide array of Canon photo printers. At times it might appear that one company has garnered a corner on the market while at other times it becomes quite apparent that it is anyone’s game and companies market heavily toward their perceived niche and demographics groups. more

As a savvy consumer in search of printers you know that when it comes to HP printers, the sky is the limit with respect to limitations. Save Space and Money by Learning How to Network Your Printer
Printers – be they the desirable HP printers or any other kind – are expensive. Sure, you may be able to pick up a cheap printer from a used computer peripherals store or maybe via the Internet, but for those who are looking to an all in one, multifunction model that will fulfill the functions of laser printers with the crispness of color printers, yet all the while being as economical and quick as inkjet printers, you will probably want to opt for a new model that is on the cutting edge of printer technology. more
